SCENARIO

Persona - “Jacob – the ineffectual team player”

Goals - Getting to know how to work in a team and give feedback

Task- Working on a team project and learning the process

  • Jacob is second-grade student who has had negative experiences of working in a team. This has led to him personally concluding that teams are useless and he singlehandedly can do all the work assigned to a team. One day, Jacob’s friend Patrick told him about how he won an iWatch for being a part of the most effective team on the CLIK (Collaborative Learning in Kids) application. Jacob told Patrick that he doesn’t like teams and can do any task on his own. But Patrick challenges him to compete with him if he thinks so.

  • Jacob accepts the challenge and after school he reaches home. He opens his tablet and installs the CLIK application. He doesn’t like losing and thinks that he can succeed any task on his own given by the application. He is pretty confident. He opens the application and is prompted to choose pictures from a given set to determine his interests. Based on the pictures his chose, his interest is determined as Arts and Crafts.

  • Jacob is introduced to his teammates as his favorite comic characters Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman. He is asked by the application to tell the characters what he likes and dislikes. He is told by the applications what they like and dislike. He then does an ice breaking activity with the comic characters to know them better. Then the application reveals Jacob the true identity of the characters. Jacob is then asked to introduce him to his teammates. He does so and is then assigned a project.

  • Jacob and his teammates are given a task to create a monster. He sees a video on what the task is all about and how to approach it. Jacob thinks that he can easily sketch a monster using the utility on the application. But, the application doesn’t let him do so. He is given an option to select either eyes, ears, mouth or face for the monster. He chooses face and the application tells him to draw two faces of a monster.

  • Then, every member of the team displays what they have drawn. Jacob shows the ace he drew and all members poll to choose one of the two. One of the two faces is choose, similarly for the objects drawn by other teammates. The face is compiled by the application and another poll is done to review the art. Jacob is not happy with the eyes of the monster so he prompts the concerned team member to rectify it.

  •  He tries to message him but is first shown a video on how to chat with the peers and failure to do so would lead to blocking of his ID from the application. Since, he wanted to win the challenge, he avoids giving negative feedback and tells the member that he feels that he can draw something better. He even draws a pair of eyes and sends him, so he can build on that idea. The teammate feels motivated and accepts his suggestion to create a new pair of eyes. Both of them are happy.

  • All the members are now prompted to rate their peers. Jacob is very happy to get the highest points in his team and to see his team on the 10th position in the leaderboard. He is excited to do more activities and move his team's rank to the topmost position and beat his friend Patrick.
